Gene earned his Master of Science degree from Austin Peay in 1987. While his formal education has been in Chemistry, Business, Math, Health and Education, Gene's passion and career have been in college athletics, where, in an 18 years as a head baseball coach, he amassed 378 victories at Bristol, Northern Iowa, Louisville, and Guilford.

Coach Baker was an Academic All American in 1981 at Austin Peay, and currently owns and operates a full service scouting/recruiting/skills improvement consulting firm, All American Athlete Consulting, employing The Mental Game Plan to enhance the opportunities of his clients in finding the optimal atmosphere for their college athletic experience.

Gene and his wife, Valorie, reside in Nashville, Tennessee with their daughters Peyton (8) and Kellyn (7).
